Sapling’s IP Clock System – Helping Save Energy
One major expense that all facilities must contend with is the rising cost of energy. This expense is unavoidable since companies and organizations need to turn on the lights, power equipment and machinery and provide a temperature-controlled environment for employees, among many other things. In order to help these companies and organizations combat the rising cost of energy, Sapling has included a feature in its digital IP clock system that can help you save money and energy over the life of your clock system.
Sapling’s digital IP clock system is powered by PoE or Power over Ethernet which provides power and data through a CAT5 cable, there is no need for any additional outlets. In order to manage all of the clocks within a system, inside each digital clock is a built-in web interface. This web interface allows a facility manager to monitor the clocks from anywhere with a network connection. Through the web interface, a user can choose to have the digital clocks display 12 or 24 hour mode, set up domestic and international Daylight Saving Time, and decide on the format the date is displayed in as well as the brightness settings for each particular clock in the system.
Focusing on the brightness settings, the digital IP clock system allows a user to choose the brightness level that each digital clock displays. The brightness options include High, Medium, Low and Off. An additional feature included with the digital IP clock system is the ability to establish a brightness schedule for the clocks. Establishing a brightness schedule includes choosing the day(s) to set alternate brightness levels, the time of day the brightness level will change and the level of brightness the clock will display (High, Medium, Low and Off). In addition, a user also has the option to choose a second time and brightness level for the digital clocks.
While the brightness schedule can help in many industries; let’s take a look at how it can assist a school. For example, if classes begin at 8 a.m., the school’s facility manager can schedule the brightness level of the clocks to display the time on high beginning at 7:30 a.m. when everyone begins to arrive. At the end of the school day, the facility manger can schedule the clock’s display to turn off at 5:30 p.m. after everyone has left the school building for the day. By utilizing the brightness schedule, the clock’s display can be set to low or completely turned off when the building is unoccupied. This can save any organization money as well as help conserve energy over the long haul.
