Sapling Spotlight: Mitch Gobetz, Marketing Manager
If you’ve had the chance to peruse the Sapling website outside of our blog section, you’ve seen countless resources on all things Sapling: videos, white papers, spec sheets, you name it! A click on the “Contact” page will reveal even more Sapling resources in the form of social media. Some may not realize how much time and effort goes in to preparing these materials so that they are at the highest standard for our customers. From the information provided, to the colors and text size, every little detail matters. This decision-making falls largely on the shoulders of Sapling’s Marketing Manager Mitch Gobetz.
Outside of our website, Mitch also directs e-mail and social media campaigns, and assists in the planning and preparation of tradeshows. Additionally, he fields requests from both customers and Sapling employees, and carries out countless other tasks. With all of these projects to work on, it seems hard to believe that Mitch is also in charge of internal IT issues here at Sapling. If an employee has trouble with the time clock or forgets their computer password, Mitch will always find the time to help.
1) What do you like best about working at The Sapling Company?
My favorite part of working at Sapling is the dynamics and changes that happen all the time. I would hate to be in a company where things are completely stagnant and never change. I also love the fact that I have a lot to dip my toe into as far as marketing goes. Most companies, you have to have a specialization in a certain area. At Sapling, I’m involved with all aspects of marketing which is a unique position to be in. It helps me expand my knowledge so I can be a better manager and marketer.
2) How long have you been working at Sapling, and how did you come to be in your current position?
This April will be ten years since I started working at Sapling. I really worked my way from the ground up. When I was hired, I worked in production assembling digital clocks and master clocks. I had then become a Technical Support Specialist where I would repair products and handle all technical calls. Since I had a very technical background, this came quite naturally. Eventually, I even worked as a technician for the engineering department. After a while, I had worked up to be a Technical Writer which really opened the door to Marketing. I had a very strong computer background, I liked graphic design, I liked to write and I knew our customers, our products and our company well. This really led the way to me to get involved with the marketing department. I started off as a Marketing Coordinator, but I had put together several marketing plans that produced results and eventually got promoted to Marketing Manager.
3) What do you do at Sapling?
I am the Marketing Manager and also handle internal IT issues, however, Marketing Manager is my primary role. In my position, I develop marketing strategies and tactics to promote the Sapling brand and its products to our customers and potentially new customers. On the day to day, I can be developing marketing plans, handling new collateral, working on new items for the website or be researching our next big innovation.
4) What has been your proudest moment?
I wouldn’t be able to say that I had one proud moment, but the last two years that I’ve been at Sapling definitely has been the most productive and rewarding in my career. I feel like I’ve taken our marketing to another level and I can see that every day. I will say that your work is only as good as the team you’re surrounded with and I’m lucky to work with such a talented and hard-working marketing department. We’ve all worked hard to build the Sapling brand and I think we haven’t even scratched the surface yet.
5) What are your hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to play softball on the weekends, and I like bowling a lot. There was a time where I thought I might have even gone professional. I also love movies and TV shows, as well as photography.
6) What is an interesting fact about you?
I’ve bowled seven 300 games and three 800 series. Most people are shocked when they find that out.
