Sapling Spotlight Series: Amy O’Brien, Support Manager
When I was first hired at The Sapling Company, I was greeted by the cheerful Human Resources Manager, Amy O’Brien. In addition to making new employees feel welcome, she assists them with any other necessary on-boarding tasks, such as paperwork and office tours. However, with all of the work that Amy puts into helping new hires to hit the ground running, you will be surprised to learn that this is just a small part of Amy’s job. Soon after being hired, I began to receive e-mails from Amy about a range of topics: logistical issues, company events, you name it. I saw her in and out of meetings, talking to nearly everyone in the company, and taking on a variety of tasks. Instead of wondering what Amy does at Sapling, I began to wonder, what doesn’t she do?
In addition to HR, Amy’s position at The Sapling Company is that of Support Manager. Sapling is committed to offering excellent support to our customers for the life of their wireless, wired, or IP clock system. Whether it is sales or technical assistance that a client is seeking, Amy is directly involved in making sure that each and every client receives above and beyond the assistance that they are looking for.
What do you like best about working at The Sapling Company?
I like that I feel like a true part of the company. Because I’ve been here for 6 years, I feel like I’ve grown as the company has grown. We have doubled in size since I started and I feel like even though some people may come and go, there is a core group of people who have truly helped to build and shape Sapling into what it is today. I also like the atmosphere and the people. I genuinely like the people I work with and have spent time with many of them outside of work. Having a positive work environment makes all the difference.
How long have you been working at Sapling, and how did you come to be in your current position?
I’ve been working for Sapling for 6 years this month. I started right out of school as a Receptionist and quickly moved up the ranks to my current position of Support Manager.
What do you do at Sapling?
I am the Support Manager and Human Resources Manager at Sapling (with Support Manager being my main position). As Support Manager, I manage all aspects of support at Sapling including customer service and a top notch technical support team. I handle all customer order inquiries, shipping problems, expediting requests, on site technical assistance requests, etc.
What has been your proudest moment?
I have a few, but if I had to pick one, I would say, this past year when Ilan, the owner of the company, returned from a trade show and said he heard nothing but positive feedback about Sapling’s Customer support and tech support. Having no complaints at all after meeting with so many of our customers is a great thing. I’ve worked very hard to get my department to where it is today and this showed me that people notice. But, more importantly, I am proud every time I get positive feedback from customers about how great our tech support and customer service is. There is no better testament to how good you do your job! In addition, I was proud to be named employee of the year twice.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my husband Kevin and my 3 year old daughter Riley. She is the greatest thing I have ever accomplished! She is definitely my most proud nonwork moment! In rare quiet moments, I love to read a good book (recent favorites are anything James Patterson and The Hunger Games trilogy).
What is an interesting fact about you?
I love being creative and in my next life I will be an event planner/wedding planner lol. But, 1 bit of info that most people don’t know is that I came up with the name for the portion of our website where you can build your system: “configuration station”.
When asked about Amy, Sapling employees were positive and enthusiastic with their responses. “Amy is sharp, quick, and to-the-point. When you have a question, doesn’t matter what it’s about, she’ll waste no time in getting you a quick and concise answer,” says Marketing Coordinator Sam Smith. One thing is for sure—Amy’s presence is felt and appreciated in every department in the company.
Great job, Amy! Be on the lookout for another Sapling personality in our next Sapling Spotlight blog.
